El Otro Lado x CK
CK Productions is proud to partner with San Miguel High School’s El Otro Lado program in Tucson, Arizona. Together, we are launching a unique initiative that blends education, art, and social impact. Through hands-on filmmaking workshops, we’re giving students the opportunity to transform their personal experiences and perspectives into powerful stories on screen.
El Otro Lado — translating to “The Other Side” — is a program that helps students reflect on their heritage, the immigration system, and life living near the border. By joining forces with CK Productions, these reflections are now being transformed into film, allowing students to share their voices with the world in a creative, professional, and deeply personal way.
El Otro Lado is proud to also be supporting CK Films’ Backyard/Desert.
The Collaboration
The Mission
Our mission is simple but bold: to teach students how to use their voice and opinions in a narrative way through film.
We believe every young person has a story worth telling.
We believe filmmaking is not just about cameras and lights, but about empathy, creativity, and courage.
We believe these students’ stories — their lived experiences on the border, their dreams, their challenges, and their pride — matter.
We are committed to Expanding opportunities for students from immigrant and minority backgrounds and building empathy through art that bridges cultures and perspectives.
Join the Mission!
We invite you to support this growing collaboration. Whether through donations, spreading the word, or attending screenings, your involvement helps these young filmmakers use their voices, share their truths, and create change.
Together, we’re not just teaching filmmaking.
We’re teaching students to see themselves as storytellers.

El Otro Lado • Documentary
El Otro Lado • Documentary
As part of this first collaboration, El Otro Lado students will be producing a short, student-run documentary about their program. From interviews and camera work to editing and storytelling, the students will lead the process, supported by CK Productions filmmakers and mentors.
This documentary will be more than a class project. It will be:
A record of their community, told in their own words.
A teaching tool for future El Otro Lado classes.
A powerful short film that can be shared at events, screenings, and beyond.

The Future
This collaboration is just the beginning. Together, CK Productions and El Otro Lado will continue to grow this program with:
Fundraisers to support student films, equipment, and festival submissions.
More classes and intensives in writing, directing and more.
Community screenings to share student work with families, peers, and local audiences.
Partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and arts organizations across the U.S. to bring this model to more students.
